Breeding farms
AAylex owns and manages poultry breeding farms located in southeastern Romania. Eggs obtained from the breeding process are used in hatcheries equipped with modern technology and then transferred to the broiler farms. Biosecurity standards are ensured at every stage of this process, including monitoring the growth of the chickens, their environment and diet.

Hatcheries
AAylex hatcheries are equipped with computerized monitoring systems that control cooling, heat and humidity to ensure a carefully controlled environment. Hygiene and sanitation are maintained by a mechanized system during the transfer of the eggs.

Broiler farms
The AAylex Group also owns and manages its own broiler farms. Broiler chickens grow in large, clean and ventilated spaces under the strict attention of our nutrition, health and growth specialists. Broiler farms are equipped with the latest technology to maintain indoor climates. Chickens are able to move around ample space on straw sheets and eat, breathe fresh air and drink water freely.

As part of our biosecurity program, outside access is restricted to chickens arriving from hatcheries, poultry feed deliveries and other materials necessary for the farm. All equipment, machines and tools entering the farm are carefully washed and disinfected before use.

Abattoirs
AAylex Group owns one abattoir in Buzău, Romania fitted with modern equipment. The abattoir receives chickens transferred from broiler farms in seven counties. During the transport, proper density is maintained to ensure the welfare of the chickens. Throughout the processing of chickens in the abattoir, the birds are inspected by the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA).

Quality Assurance (QA) Laboratories
From the egg to the final product, all stages are carefully monitored and lab tests are continuously performed to ensure that food safety is observed to the highest standards in accordance with food safety, welfare and environmental directives. Cocorico products are also verified in a RENAR-certified laboratory that is equipped with the latest technology. This enables the quality and correctness of the poultry feed for each life stage of the chickens to be effectively analyzed.

Water
Water facilities on the premise improve the microbiological quality of water coming from deep wells. Nitrate and nitrite levels are even lower than the minimum limits imposed by law.

Feed
Agro Cooperativa Agricolă is AAylex Group’s newest poultry feed plant in Făurei, Romania with a capacity of producing 15 tonnes of feed per hour (110,000 tons per year). The facility is equipped with the latest technology that maintains the production flow and accurate dosage of all the feed nutrients adapted to each growth stage of the chickens. Chickens are fed a 100% plant-based diet consisting of corn, wheat, triticale and soybeans supplemented with natural multi-vitamins and minerals.

Biosecurity
Advanced technologies ensure proper temperature and humidity control, ventilation, fresh air and hygiene.

Welfare
Chickens are subject to a daily sanitary inspection performed by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA). AAylex farm broilers only practice barn poultry breeding to ensure  animal welfare standards in line with ANSVSA directives.

Research and know-how

Over 38 years of research and development experience has enabled AAylex specialists to ensure proper feed nutrition for the chickens, using only plant- based ingredients. Our specialized department for animal nutrition certifies the quality of each ingredient, a procedure conducted by a RENAR-certified quality assurance lab equipped with state of the art technology.  Micro- climate monitoring, environmental stewardship and numerous accreditations are also part of AAylex Group’s continuous R&D plans.

Our chicken feed

The importance of raising healthy chickens begins with Cocorico’s chicken feed, which contains wheat, corn, soy and refined sunflower oil. This cereal feed arrives directly to the Cocorico poultry feed plant. Before unloading, our lab technicians collect samples to test at the laboratory located adjacent to the factory gate. It only takes a few minutes to ensure whether the raw materials comply with Cocorico’s high quality standards. Once the feed receives the green light by the lab technicians, the cereal truck is disinfected and unloaded.

Nutritionists formulate feed recipes by calculating the specific nutritional requirements for each growth stage of the chicken broilers. Using a computerized system, they analyze the amount of proteins, essential amino acids, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals in the feed. The aim of the recipes is to provide the optimal energy and protein levels to ensure healthy chicken growth.

The protein feed should be easy to digest, ensuring the complete assimilation of nutrients in the chickens. For example, for chickens between 1 day and 10 days old, the protein level is set to a value of about 23%, thus ensuring the perfect balance of protein to energy expenditure. For chickens that are 11 days to 28 days old, the protein amount is set at 21% to 22% to meet higher energy requirements. At 35 to 40 days old, the protein level decreases to 18% although their energy increases by 10%. Older chickens have greater energy output but require lower levels of protein, so it is important to accurately dose each feeding stage.

The feed recipes are all digitally logged and Cocorico’s computerized system releases the dosage of each ingredient with high precision and then sterilizes the feed at high temperatures using a steam spray. The feed is then cooled using specialized equipment and ground up depending on the recipe. When the feed is released from the cooler onto the production line, the laboratory takes samples once more to ensure that the finished product meets biosecurity requirements. The feed is then transported in specialized vehicles to the poultry farms.

Cocorico’s chicken feed will never contain hormones, steroids, additives or animal flour. Cocorico chickens are fed with 100% natural ingredients based on cereals, vitamins and minerals and are raised with care on the farm grounds. This produces the healthiest and most nutritious poultry that is both tasty and tender.

This is what we consider authentic chicken.

The Cocorico truth

The myth

The truth

Chicken is unhealthy

Chicken is rife with macronutrients and micronutrients that fuel and nourish the human body. Poultry contains all essential amino acids necessary for protein synthesis. White poultry meat has a high protein content of 21-22%, while red meat is 19-20 % protein.  Epidemiological studies support the common view that an adequate intake of poultry facilitates the maintenance of healthy body weight, especially due to high protein content. It also has a positive effect in protecting the body from the risk of developing degenerative diseases common in contemporary society (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia).

Carbohydrates (sugars) are found in a small quantity in poultry as muscle glycogen is transformed into lactic acid after slaughter. As for fat, chicken fits into low saturated fat diets as it’s high in polyunsaturated fats and Omega-6 fatty acids.

Moreover, meat contains vitamin B12, which works with folic acid in many body processes, including the synthesis of DNA, red blood cells and the myelin sheath that surrounds nerve cells and speeds signal conduction along nerve cells. B12 and folic acid also work synergistically to reduce body concentrations of homocysteine (an intermediate in the conversion of methionine to cysteine). Increased homocysteine has been implicated in a variety of conditions including atherosclerosis and osteoporosis. Homocysteine likely promotes atherosclerosis by directly damaging the artery and reducing the integrity of the vessel wall. In osteoporosis, elevated homocysteine levels lead to a defective bone matrix by interfering with the formation of proper collagen.

Poultry also has a significant source of vitamin B3 (niacin), which is involved in the metabolism of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and minerals and supports the adrenals. Niacin functions in the body as a component of the coenzymes NAD and NADP, which are involved in over 50 different chemical reactions in the body. Coenzyme 1, the active form of vitamin B3, a substance present mainly in chicken and turkey, is essential to neurological health, boosting mood and combating fatigue. As far as mineral content, poultry contains important micronutrients including selenium, zinc and iron.

Chicken contains growth hormones

The use of growth hormones to breed chickens has been strictly forbidden by law since 1982 in accordance with directive 81/602 EEC of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). According to article 8, section 3 of Ordinance 199/2006, meat or products from animals treated with oestrogenic, androgenic or gestagenic agents or beta agonists cannot be placed on the market for human consumption. The use of substances such as estradiol-17B, progesterone, testosterone, zeranol, trenbolone and melengestrol acetate (MGA) are strictly forbidden.

As part of the Romanian government’s strategic surveillance food safety program and Ordinance 35/2016, poultry producers must agree to audits performed by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA). Product samples are collected for laboratory analysis to rule out the presence of hormones, toxic substances and medications. Moreover, AAylex has implemented its own program that monitors and verifies the presence of any such substances in its product range.

Chicken contains additives

Cocorico poultry is 100% natural. All products are free of additives, GMOs, processed materials, growth hormones and antibiotics. Chickens are fed a 100% plant-based diet based on corn, wheat, triticale and soybeans supplemented with multi-vitamins and minerals.

Chicken causes weight gain

Poultry will not make you fat, although you can gain weight if your diet is not part of a balanced lifestyle. Poultry is rich in protein, which contributes to satiety and balanced blood sugar levels. This prevents insulin resistance and the onset of metabolic disorders that can cause weight gain and obesity.
