Black Sea: Dispatches and Recipes – Through Darkness and Light
Writer Caroline Eden has traveled the world over from Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan, Turkey, Haiti and Bangladesh for BBC Radio 4’s From Our Own Correspondent.
In her latest book Black Sea, she explores her love for food and travel by chronicling the flavours of many cultures across Odessa, Bessarabia, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Black Sea has won three awards: ‘Best Travel and Food Book of the Year’ at the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards, the John Avery Award at the Andre Simon Awards and best ‘Food Book’ at the Guild of Food Writers Awards 2019.
Why we like this book
It’s part travelogue and part recipe book with rich history and cultural biographies from the Black Sea region interspersed throughout. The art of travel is incomplete without experiencing all the colourful and lavish recipes from each region and its inhabitants. You can expect to cook up Polish Bigos stew, Turkish banker’s fish soup, Bulgarian zelnik pie and more.
