Inside an artist’s kitchen
Food is omnipresent in Picasso’s work. Think the tomato plant in the Grands-Augustins studio, the eel stew that his wife Jacqueline used to cook and the painting he made on Manet’s Le déjeuner sur l’herbe. Everything culinaria features in his poetry, while kitchen utensils make an appearance in his sculptures, such as his famous cubist absinthe glass. While the book delves into Picasso’s relationship to food, it also explores some of his favorite eateries and how they are meeting points for the avant-garde, from Quatre Gats in Barcelona to Lapin Agile in Montmartre, Paris.
Why we like this book
Food presentation is an art, especially when it comes to enticing food layouts and teetering stacks of cake and perfectly baked pastries. We just don’t usually think about how artists and food come together. If you’re a food and art buff, this book will definitely be right up your alley.
