Green and innovative sustainable evolution in the food industry

Working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe

31 May 2022

The solar PV systems for self-consumption are an essential part of our hybrid energy strategy; by integrating renewable energy production (solar energy, biogas) with conventional grid-based energy in a holistic approach, we ensure the energy demand management to flatten consumption peaks, generate savings, and reduce CO2 emissions.

We have implemented an innovative waste-2-energy and co-generation system, which makes use of animal waste to generate biogas and power up some of our freezing systems, as well as PV system pilot projects at our farms. In continuation of these initiatives, we have currently under implementation the Green and innovative sustainable evolution in the food industry project, supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants in Romania 2014-2021 in the frame of the Energy Programme Romania, as per the Financing Contract no. 2021/320760, concluded with Innovation Norway as programme operator.

The Green and innovative sustainable evolution in the food industry project consists in the implementation of a solar power system of a total of 997 kWp, ensuring the self-consumption needs at five of our locations, four farms and a Feeding Plant, as an environmentally friendly alternative to usage of conventional electricity, reducing the CO2 emissions by approximately 557 tons/ year.
